Phi Theta Kappa inducts new members and elects officers

On Thursday, May 21, Phi Theta Kappa inducted 41 new members. Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education with more than 1.5 million members and 1,200 chapters located in all 50 United States, U.S. territories, Canada, Germany and Japan. Phi Theta Kappa was founded in 1918 in Missouri to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and provide opportunities for individual growth and development. Phi Theta Kappa promotes Leadership, Fellowship, Service to community, and Academic growth and excellence. The Raymond Walters College chapter became active in 1991.

Members must be enrolled in an accredited institution offering associate degree programs, have accumulated 24 credit hours at RWC, have a G.P.A of 3.5 or higher, and have good moral character and possess recognized qualities of citizenship.

This year Phi Theta Kappa launched two “Green” projects, including the recycling of plastic bags, and on Saturday, May 30, the Chapter will be repainting the bike rack at RWC. They will also be hosting a Food Drive and selling sodas to benefit the Freestore Foodbank

The newly elected officers for the next year are Amanda Duncil-Wermuth (President), Daniel Carper (Vice President), Samantha Puthoff (Secretary,) and Cynthia Jones (Treasurer).
