James E. Cebula, RWC Professor of History, died Friday, October 9, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Professor Cebula taught History at RWC for 40 years and was a leader in the fight for collective bargaining rights for UC faculty in the early 1970s.
“Those who knew him will remember his fiery defense of the faculty and the issues important to them,” said Professor John McNay of the RWC Department of History, Philosophy, and Art History.
Cebula’s dedication to collective bargaining carried over into his historical research, McNay said, resulting in several publications and creative works focusing on labor and urban history.
Memorial services will be announced by the family at a later date.
