Avoid the Yellow Parking Stalls

Hundreds of students and faculty at RWC drive to class every day of the week, and we all seem to be making the same figure eight driving maneuvers all over the parking lot, day in and day out. Parking has been a big pain for everybody this year (not just us students).RWC Security Officer Jeff Polly can be seen riding his bike around the parking lot most days while students are on their way to class. Polly has noticed that students have been parking in the yellow parking spots, which are for the use of faculty only. Officer Polly does not want to seem like a mean guy, he says. If you are lucky, he might stop you in the lot and remind you not to do it again, or even post a note on your car, but there’s only so much reminding he can do before he writes tickets.

Don’t think he hasn’t heard the same responses, like, “I didn’t know we weren’t allowed to park here” and “but there is nowhere else to park.”

When students get their parking decals, they are specifically told not to park in those spots and to only use the white ones. Not only is it a pain for faculty when a student takes their spot, but it can be a serious pain for us students as well. Parking tickets can prevent students from registering for classes, and by just following the rules, you can save yourselves the hassle of even paying a ticket.

For students who say there’s nowhere else to park, there is an entire parking lot behind the Flory Center, which is nearly always empty. Basically, students, just park in the white spots. It simply makes everything easier on Officer Polly, faculty, and yourselves.
