In correlation with LGBT History Month and National Coming Out Day on Friday, October 11, the UCBA Multicultural Affairs Office will be hosting a Safe Zone 101 training session on Thursday, October 24 at 3 p.m. in Muntz Hall, Room 351.
The session, which aims to create an open campus environment that does not discriminate against any person due to sexuality or gender identification, will include training and exercises that cover the following topics: becoming comfortable discussing sexuality and gender identifications, the importance of inclusive language, creating safe spaces and how to be a supportive advocate and ally for LGBTQ social injustice and equality.
All participants will receive resource packets to aid in understanding of the topics and those who choose to become LGBTQ allies will be given a Safe Zone magnet to represent themselves as a space where LGBTQ people can be sure they will be respected and open to express themselves.
The event is open to students, faculty and staff. Reservations are required and can be scheduled by emailing BaMCA@ucmail.uc.edu.
