This past November, RWC welcomed a very special new addition to the staff of the college. Jodi Gillis is an Americorps-Vista (Volunteer In Service To America) who works side by side with Helen Kegler in the RWC Multi-Cultural Student Affairs Office. While here, Jodi’s main duties are to develop and coordinate an orientation to higher education for GED graduates or ABLE (Adult Basic and Literacy Education) students. She will also solicit volunteers for skills enhancement classes, coordinate websites for three student populations, including international students, parents support group and minority students. Further, Jodi will also develop a social services resource list.
Jodi is a very interesting lady. She was born in Cincinnati and graduated with a B.S. in German language and African American studies from the University of Cincinnati. She recently returned to Cincinnati in August from working as a JET (Japanese Exchange Teaching program), teaching English to junior high kids. Jodi lived in Japan for one year in Gifu, Cincinnati’s sister city. She has also traveled to Hamburg, Germany, working as an Au Pair Maddchen, as well as doing work in India with the International Habitat for Humanity.
Jodi says her experience at RWC working with Mrs. Kegler has been “awesome.” “I love the student life environment,” she said, “and the constant spinning wheel of ideas floating around makes me miss the university life.”
Jodi’s stay at RWC will be short-lived, for she has committed for only one year, before she’ll be off for further adventures.
