Ohio Governor John Kasich has outlined a new budget plan with hopes of lowering income taxes by an astonishing 23 percent.
He also wishes to add a half-cent increase to the state sales tax, which could save hundreds of dollars per family here in Ohio.
But more importantly to us students of UCBA, there is another part of his budget rollout that includes great news for really all college students here in Ohio. Kasich wants to make tuition prices at public universities and colleges only be able to increase tuition by two percent the first year of this budget rollout and also put a stop to increases during the second year.
This news is amazing for students who may be paying their own way. But it gets even better, as he is promising a $120 million fund that could help pay your college loans if you start out at a low-income job after you graduate and accept a job that is in-demand and stay here in Ohio for at least five years.
If that doesn’t sound amazing, he also took a step farther to appeal to the safety of college campuses here in Ohio and promised to spend another $2 million to create a safer environment to stop sexual assaults on campuses.
