Hollywood Greek Week

April 16th started the events of “Greek Week.” This was a weeklong event that consisted of step, singing, dancing, Greek games, and most importantly, fundraising for Make-A-Wish Foundation. This year the Greek community raised a total of $35,440.40. Although below the goal of $55,000, these funds will grant five wishes of Make-A-Wish Foundation children.

April 24th was the Greek Award Celebration. The ceremony recognized many awards and achievements of students and faculty within the Greek Community.

The night began by handing out Excellence Awards. These awards consisted of Alumni Engagement, Smart Risk Management, Innovative Recruitment, Academic Excellence, Outstanding Program/Event, and the Overall Premier Chapter. The top Fraternity and Sorority in each category were given a plaque recognizing their hard work.

One special award that was handed out during the night was the top Fraternity and Sorority in fundraising for Greek week. This year the winners of this award were the men of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and ladies of Chi Omega. These two chapters had many fundraisers in and outside of the community to raise over $5,000 each.

The biggest award of the night was the Overall Winners for Greek week. They are recognized for their hard work, and their dedication to the Greek Community. The winners were the men of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the ladies of Chi Omega.

Following these awards The Order of Omega, which is the National Honorary Fraternity, handed out awards that consisted of: Greek Woman and Male of the year; Outstanding Male and Woman achievement award; Excellent Athlete award; Outstanding Chapter President award; and Non-Greek awards including the Faculty Advisor of the year and Professor of the year.

Not only do these awards recognize all the women and men of excellence, it also shows the hard work these individuals put into their career at the University of Cincinnati and the Greek organizations they belong to.

At the end of the night, everyone was proud of their achievements and definitely looking forward to starting Greek Week all over again next year.
