For many years same sex marriages have been a problem to many states and countries. Often the question of universal human rights is involved in whether same sex couples could have the same marriage rights as couples of different genders. In 1989, Denmark didn’t give same sex couples a marriage license, but they didn’t deny the couples love. They called the ceremony a “registered partnership.” A registered partnership indicates that the couple is in fact married, but they don’t have the same rights as a married couple of different genders.
In the United States, 17 states, including New Jersey, Nevada, Vermont, Maine and others, created civil unions, with some but not all the rights of married couples.
In my opinion, same sex marriages are just as legal as different sex marriages. Love is defined as a strong emotion and affection of romance toward a person. Denying same sex couples the right to marriage is wrong.
The right to be committed to a person should be allowed no matter if two people are homosexual or not. I feel as though same sex marriages are just as important to recognize as different sex marriages.
If marriages were a symbol of love and affection, then same sex couples should be allowed to be married with the same rights as different sex couples. Even though same sex marriages may be against some people’s religion, it is the love that should determine the rights of same sex marriages.
