For the sixth straight year, RWC will offer its Summer British Study Program, with two different courses: a study of the European theater of WW II and a Creative Writing seminar covering fiction, drama or poetry. The program will last from June 11 to July 7.The home base will be Harlaxton Manor, an architectural jewel, in fact, 150 years old. The design of the building combines an electic mix of Elizabethan, Baroque, and Gothic. The manor is owned by the university of Evansville and is only 100 miles north of London.
The RWC program includes field trips to many exciting points of historical interest. There may be a visit to Churchill’s boyhood home, Blenheim Palace, as well as his cabinet room in London, where wartime decisions were made. In addition, on the itinerary will be the Normandy beaches, where allied soldiers came ashore on D-Day.
The writing workshop will be held both inside and outside Harlaxton manor, in a milieu conducive to creative literary effort. Therefore, the students will keep a journal and complete a portfolio of writing assignments. The writing workshops are designed for experienced or beginning writers.
Both courses may be taken for honors credit by arrangement with the instructor and UC’s Honors Program.
The students will spend their last four nights in Paris, where they can enjoy the cultural differences on the other side of the channel.
The estimated cost of the program including room and board, airfare, ferry, and other transportation is only $2000.
