The RWC Foreign Language Department sponsored a workshop for all Cincinnati area foreign language teachers on Saturday, October 15. More than 95 teachers (in French, German, Spanish, Latin, Chinese, Portuguese and ASL) attended. The workshop presenter was Myriam Met, Acting Director, National Foreign Language Center, University of Maryland.
According to RWC Foreign Language Professor Judy Baughin, the workshop “Connecting to Other Cultures Through Language” increased the understanding of cultural perspectives, emphasizing the importance of using language to communicate across cultures without distortion or misinterpretation.
In addition to the keynote speaker, Deborah Robinson, a Foreign Language Consultant from the Ohio Department of Education, gave teachers an update on what is happening in foreign language at the state level.
According to Professor Baughin, the workshop was well received by all the participants.
