The Student of the Year is one of the most prestigious awards given at RWC. To receive this award it takes dedication to studies while juggling other aspects of life, be it professional, personal, or extracurricular.Amber Wooten was selected among the multiple nominees for the Student of the Year.
Her dedication to her studies is outstanding and above most others. She dedicates more time her studies and academic performance than anything else.
Despite insufficient time, she still makes time to volunteer her time to the Pathways group on the RWC campus.
She doesn’t volunteer her time to Pathways because it’s required for her degree, she does it because she enjoys helping those in the program.
Wooten is also an active member of Student Government, filling the officer position of Secretary. She is also a Senator, which means every Wednesday evening she spends time on Main Campus maintaining lines of communication between Main Campus and the RWC Campus.
Another aspect, Wooten spends many hours with Student Life to aid and assist them in many of the events run by Student Life.
One other aspect to her performance: Being a native to Findlay, Ohio which is about three hours North, she drives home every weekend to work.
Wooten has held her job for many years, and maintains her dedication to her employer, a local hospital.
Several times there natural disasters in which she voluntarily aided with when returning home.
Despite driving home every weekend to work so she can afford her own expenditures, volunteering many hours per week to work with Pathways on campus, and whatever personal events that may arise, she still managed to excel academically.
Last quarter, Wooten performed so well she was on the Dean’s List. Thus far it seems as she will be the Dean’s List this quarter as well.
Unfortunately for the RWC community, Wooten is graduating – She will be leaving RWC.
Wooten has left a positive influence and impact and many, not excluding any staff, faculty, or students.
This is why Wooten was selected Student of the Year – She excels academically while still performing every other function that she needs and chooses to.
So if you see her in the halls or outside, congratulate her. She’s earned at least as much.
