RWC Hosting Annual African American Read-In

RWC is celebrating Black History Month by hosting a National African American Read-In (NAARI) on Monday, February 22, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Muntz Lobby. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to read short passages from books written by African American authors, either from a book of choice or from the selection provided by the English and Communications Department. There will also be a resource table with souvenirs and samples of Southern cuisine. This year marks the 21st annual Read-in. The NAARI is a widespread event spanning 49 states, the West Indies, and several African countries, and is endorsed by the International Reading Association and sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), and the NCTE’s Black Caucus. Every year, schools, churches, and businesses in these areas host read-ins to celebrate African American history and literature.

Students interested in participating in the read-in can contact Helen Kegler in Muntz 127 or email Helen.Kegler@uc.edu. The time slots for readers are 12-12:30 p.m., 12:30-1 p.m., and 1-1:30 p.m.
