(Editor’s Note: This is Part Two of a two-part article begun in the previous issue.)Myth #6. Suits should only be mixed with dress shoes.
Not anymore. You can definitely dress down your suit for a more elegant and very modern look. The key item for this is your Samba sneakers. These sneakers always go well with a suit; they dress it down without being too dressy. Wear your favorite vintage inspired T-shirt, and layer it with an open-collared oxford shirt or a track jacket under your suit for a very casual and comfortable look that is well put togeher.
Myth #7. When wearing a turtle neck, always wear your necklace around the neck of your sweater for a classy look.
Yes, you should, if you would like to look dated. A turtle neck sweater is indeed a classic look by itself, especially when mixed with dark shade, solid washed jeans with a pair of leather boots (no furry boots, please). If you have a necklace, you don’t have to wear it around the neck of your sweater. Leave your necklace at home, or just wear it inside for a sleeker, classier, and more modern look.
Myth #8. Be festive by wearing a sweater with holiday prints on it.
Not necessarily. During the holiday season, pretty much everyone knows it is around, so you don’t have to wear your sweater with holiday prints on it. A good way of celebrating the holiday season is by opting for a more luxurious texture, like cashmere, wool, cable knit, or even a velvet blazer. These textures are very nice to the touch. Holiday season is mostly about getting close to your loved ones. This season, make it nicer for them to be close to you.
Myth #9. If you love the brand, wear it all over you.
No, you should not. If you can afford, let’s say, high end designer clothing, one insignia is good enough for us to know what or whom you’re wearing. If your jacket or items in your clothing, aside from your handbag or purse, have more than five logos of the designer on them, you’ve gone too far. Wearing too many logos on your clothing will make you look like a purse or a billboard. In addition, too much or too big of an insignia creates an impression that you have money but no sense of style.
Myth #10. Dress pants should only come with pleats.
No, they should not anymore. Go for a sleeker look by opting for flat-front dress pants. Pleats create volume on your hips that make you wider or bigger than what you would like to be. A flat front creates a skinnier look because it elongates your leg for a taller and sleeker silhouette.
With these rules, you should easily be able to recycle and wear your favorite items that were banned by the season. So go ahead and feel good, look sharp, save money, be creative, and have fun at the same time because that’s what fashion is all about.
