Study Skills Center takes over test anxiety and time management workshops

The College Study Skills Center has recently taken over responsibility for offering two workshops, Test Anxiety and Time Management. These two workshops were previously provided by the Career Services Office. According to Mary McClellan, Director of the RWC Study Skills Center, the strength of having this program handled by the College Study Skills group is that they can also address additional study strategies to help reduce anxiety.

The test anxiety workshop will help students figure out whether the anxiety is situational, for example situational anxiety that would come from not being prepared.

Maybe before every test you have clammy hands or thoughts of failing. The College Study Skills staff is ready to help. They have techniques to teach students how to relax.

They will explore what you do with your time, help you get organized, establish goals, and discover what it is that you are using your time doing, then how to change or adjust the ones that aren’t working.

The time management workshop will provide a look at how you spend your time and help you to set goals. Then you can learn to self-manage with the time you have. The study skills staff will use rewards as well to help motivate participants.

Mary McClellan says that she and the rest of the staff are eager to get students in the workshops and help them succeed in the future.
