My World: Are Pro Athletes Overpaid?

The barbershop is a sacred place for a man.  Not only is it a place where you get your hair cut, but the conversations that take place there are worth the trip in itself.

On my most recent trip to my barbershop, the conversation was athletes and the question of whether they should take less money.  There was a large amount of people in the shop who thought that athletes should turn down some of the money that teams offer them.  This is easily the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my life.

In some kind of way, we as fans seem to think that, because athletes make millions, as opposed to our small wages, they don’t deserve the money they make.

Professional athletes earn every single dime they get.  I’m certain that some Bengals fans think Mike Nugent doesn’t deserve his check after that Panthers game.

Nobody goes to the owners of these teams and tells them, “Okay, you’ve raped enough people for $9 beers.  It’s time to start giving them away for free.”  A statement like that will get security called on you.

If in the future you begin to think athletes are overpaid and should take a pay cut, I challenge you to do this.  Go to your place of employment and tell your boss, “I’m going to do the same job I did yesterday for $5 less.”

It kind of puts it in perspective now, doesn’t it?
