Events highlight National Poetry Month celebration

This year, RWC’s celebration of National Poetry Month will be highlighted by two events. The first will be a poetry reading by poet Pauletta Hansel. She will read from her collection entitled “Divining,” from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, April 11 in the Muntz Hall Theater (Room 119). Ms. Hansel will also be conducting a poetry writing workshop.Hansel currently resides in Cincinnati, but spent her childhood in the Appalachian region of eastern Kentucky. Her works have been featured in “Ms.” magazine, “Mountain Review,” “Appalachian Journal,” and “Wind.”

She has also been named Ohio Poet of the Year along with establishing Street Talk, a local and national performance troupe, and entertaining audiences with her one-woman performance “Sitting with Terry.”

Hansel currently is President and Managing Director of the Women Writing for a Change Foundation, a non-profit feminist creative writing center, where she helps women and girls enrich their writing skills. She has also worked as an independent writer and consultant for the Urban Appalachian Council, Covington Community Center, the Ohio Arts Council, and the Mayerson Foundation.

“MacBeth” will also be performed by the Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival to continue the celebration of National Poetry month. This performance will be on Wednesday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to noon. This two-hour play will conclude with a question and answer session.
