I’m Not a Sneakerhead…I Just Love Sneakers

Mack's Closet

Long before it was cool to be a sneakerhead, there were people like myself who have a true love for sneakers. Like every- thing else today, collecting sneakers has gotten blown way out of proportion.

These days far too many people buy shoes for reasons other than actually lik- ing the shoes. It’s far too common to see people beat up or killed for shoes, and it’s shameful to see every time it happens.

My love for sneakers takes me back to growing up in Winton Terrace. In those days, the dope dealers had all the sneakers my mother couldn’t afford to get me. I vowed when I got older I would get all the sneakers that I couldn’t get when I was little. As I got older and began to earn my own money, the first things I would always get were the freshest sneakers.

These days I don’t have the passion for sneakers as I once did, but throughout the year there are still a number of sne- aers that I just have to have. There was a time when I would camp out all night for my desired sneakers, but there’s no way in the world I’d do that today.

Walking through UCBA daily, I see that I’m not the only one with a love for sneakers. Those particular people inspire me to dig another fresh pair everyday.
