Tamara Jones Wins Distinguished Alumni Award

Tamara “Tammy” Jones, a 1992 RWC graduate and now the Associate Director of Procter and Gamble’s External Relations team, is the 2010 RWC Distinguished Alumni Award winner. While a student at RWC back in the early 90s, she improved her leadership skills and built long-lasting friendships, she said. Most of her memorable times here were spent as an ambassador hosting on-campus events for new students. Her interactions with faculty also impacted her tremendously. Three in particular, Vicki Hammer, Virginia Wiley, and the late Dr. Barbara Hansen, challenged and encouraged her throughout her time on campus.

After graduating from RWC with a degree in Applied Business, Tammy went on to UC’s Uptown Campus. While working towards her bachelor’s degree in Applied and General Studies, she also worked full-time at P&G. She started there as a brand secretary and rose through the ranks of management to her current position, Associate Director for External Relations.

She has worked with various major media outlets to secure feature articles about P&G, leading the communication between this company and other companies at every major marketing event. She has received P&G internal marketing honors for her contributions on Pampers business and business results on the Wal-Mart customer team.

Not only does Tammy shine in her professional life, but she also uses her leadership skills to give back to the community. She is a Junior Achievement Consultant, teaching the elementary school program to more than 500 children, was recognized in 2005 as a “Rising Star” for the Greater Cincinnati YWCA, and was a graduate of the YWCA Rising Star board leadership project in 2007. She also has volunteered at the Greater Cincinnati Alzheimer’s Association, and in 2008, became the secretary on the Executive Board of Directors.

Tammy likens her time at RWC to a springboard, saying that her academic training combined with an excellent co-op position prepared her to succeed in life.
