On the Spot: By 2022, will there be a Soylent Green?

The rising price of inflation has made it nearly impossible in the past to earn a living on the minimum wage. Our government agreed to raise the minimum wage presumably to lower the poverty line. However, will steady increases in the cost of living counteract the wage increase, or will we see growth to our economy and keep the homeless off the streets?I asked four people around campus this question, “Compared to the rising cost of living, do you think the minimum wage increases meet the demands of today’s needs and wants? Explain.”

“No, I don’t believe they meet the demands of today’s needs.”

Meher Sadri

“Yes, I think it meets our demands.”

DC Nguyen

Jonathan Hill
