Book Review: “A Drink Before the War” another suspenseful offering by by Dennis Lehane

From Dennis Lahane, the writer of “Gone, Baby Gone” and “Mystic River” comes “A Drink Before the War.” Lehane brings suspense and moral questioning in this Boston crime story. Private investigator Patrick Kenzie and his parter/girlfriend, Angela Gennaro, are hired by some Boston politicians willing to pay Kenzie and Gennaro big money for a seemingly small job. The job they have to do is find a missing cleaning woman who stole some secret documents from these politicians.

As the story opens up, Kenzie and Gennaro learn that the crime is not your everyday kind of theft. Kenzie begins to learn that the cleaning woman might have done it for justice, and therefore deserves to get away with it.

“A Drink Before the War” is one of those great mystery books you cannot put down. The suspense and twists and turns are absolutely terrific. This is a must read for any suspense/mystery reader.
