What Are You Reading? “Crank” Is Raw and Real

RWC student Alyssa Lee is currently reading “Crank,” written by Ellen Hopkins. In the book, Kristina, the 15-year-old narrator, explains how she became addicted to crank. She explains how the stimulant had turned her from a straight A student to a drug addict.

She was court ordered to visit her long absent dad. Here is when she meets Adam. He is the one who introduces her to the “monster.”

Her addiction begins to grow, as does the control of her new personality (called Bree) over her. Very quickly her life begins to change in ways like her dating two different guys, who both also use crank. She also begins to fall behind in school and loses all of her old friends.

This is a serious book with some humor thrown in here and there. Ellen Hopkins’s books tend to be very real and raw at the same time, mostly being straight to her point.
