Crane’s “Divided Lives” Gets Second Look in History Magazine

RWC English Professor Cynthia Crane’s book “Divided Lives: The Untold Stories of Jewish-Christian Women in Nazi Germany,” will be excerpted for seven pages in the upcoming June-July issue of History Magazine, which publishes little-known instances in history. Chapter 5 of the book, entitled “The Law,” will be reprinted. The chapter discusses the connotation of Hitler’s racial purity laws.

The book recounts the story of children born through mixed marriages during Nazi Germany. These children were persecuted under the Nuremberg Laws because of their classification as Jewish, despite their often Christian upbringing.

Professor Crane was inspired to research this topic because her father and grandmother fled Germany in the 1930’s. The magazine will be available at most major bookstores beginning in mid-May.
