This feature student story proves that people should always try something if they’re interested in it, because you never know how talented you are or could become. Whitney Coyle is a sophomore at Raymond Walters majoring in Liberal Arts. She is 27 and has two children. Her son, Nate, is five years old and her daughter Kaylee is four.
Whitney has a passion for music, literature, writing, and reading. She is very interested in secondary English education. Recently, she was accepted for a part in a play written by RWC English Professor Rhonda Pettit, titled “Global Lovers.” This poetic drama was directed by e.E. Charlton-Trujillo, who happens to be the featured poet for this year’s National Poetry Month celebration at RWC.
Getting a part in the play was great is a tremendous honor, but it was just the beginning. One day while in Professor Pettit’s Political Prisoners literature class, Whitney received a flyer about an upcoming contest for a music video called “Wait for Me,” by Moby. The winning video would be used for the actual music video.
Whitney hadn’t acted much outside of a couple plays in high school, but she was interested and decided to go to the try-out. She felt some butterflies before her audition: “I saw people on the phone with their agents,” she said.
This must have been a little intimidating to say the least. However, Whitney got the part of the mother in the video. Her daughter was a lesbian and she did not like her daughters’ views.
I’ve seen the video, and it is very touching. You can view it at genero.tv/watch-video/5090/. Although the video did not win the competition, it did very well, getting 15th place out of 280 videos submitted.
Whitney does not plan to pursue her acting career any further; however, she does plan to try out for the Cincinnati Rollergirls. It seems that Whitney will be successful in life, regardless of where it takes her.
