“Four Days to Glory: Wrestling with the Soul of the American Heartland,” by Mark Kreidler, tells the true story of Jay Borschel and Dan LeClere, a pair of three-time state wrestling champions, and the quest for their fourth straight title in their senior year of high school-something that would take them from being merely great to being legendary. I enjoyed reading this book because it shows something in sports-beyond money and fame-that one rarely sees anymore: two individuals just desiring to be the best.
They stopped at nothing, from cutting weight while working out multiple times a day in addition to their wrestling practices, to mentally preparing for each and every match. It shows, when blessed with a natural ability, just how much is possible when you really work for it.
I would recommend this book to anybody who likes or has been involved with wrestling, as well as sports fans in general, as the author is a regular writer for ESPN, and has been recognized by the AP Sports Editors with a distinguished award as one of America’s top ten sportswriters.
