Science fiction is now a reality thanks to Google.
The Internet giant has created a seemingly revolutionary piece of technology that is called Project Glass. This device could have been a prop from the movie “Minority Report,” as it gives people a new way to connect to the world.
Project Glass is a mobile device that you wear on your head like a pair of glasses, which positions a lens in front of one of your eyes. An operating system similar to the smart phones we use everyday is projected into your vision.
In 2012 Google released a video displaying some of the features that could be included with Project Glass, such as texting, making phone calls, listening to music and navigation.
Google co-founder Sergey Brin said in a post on Google+ that there is also a feature that will take pictures every 10 seconds of whatever you are looking at and upload them to Google servers for you to later view. This has caused some controversy, because forgetting to turn off this feature will result in a recording of everything you do and saving it on Google’s servers, which could potentially lead to an invasion of privacy issue.
In an interview with Bloomberg Television, Brin said that a developer prototype of Project Glass can be purchased for $1,500 and will be distributed in 2013. Brin also said his hopes were to release a consumer version of Project Glass sometime in 2014. Google is aiming for a price point below $1,500.
