In each addition of the Activist, we try to have a music review. For this edition, I have hooked a member of an up and coming new rap group, The Beat Gang, here on campus. His name in the group is J. Black. This group is fresh and new. It consists currently of six men: J. Black, B. Chubb, Young Nell, and Scoop, all from Cincinnati, and then Pistol and Mack 11 out of Dayton. The group has only been together for a year, but you would never know that listening to their music, which is together all the way around.
J. Black (second from right in photo) is a 20-year old sophmore here at RWC, who has a real passion for his music. The promotion of their new album, titled “Beat Gang Vol. 1,” is what grabbed my attention for the review. J. Black has been selling CD’s here on campus for $5 and promoting by word of mouth. The group is just waiting on some official paperwork to be able to put their CD out on store shelves.
What we need to do is keep our eyes open for some up and coming singles from some of the guys from the group, like B. Chubb with “My Beats My Game,” Young Nell with “Least Expected,” and Mack 11 with “Macnifacent.”
If you are interested in a CD, studio time, or backdrop beats, contact Mack 11 at (513) 240-8411.
