Dental Hygiene students need help in completing requirements

As graduation approaches and preparation takes a toll on many students, Spring Quarter can become extremely stressful. RWC Dental Hygiene students, for instance, have the pressure of preparing for graduation while trying to fulfill necessary requirements in order to successfully complete the program. The students are always looking for children ages 7-13, children with braces, and children in need of sealants. According to the students, they are in desperate need of individuals who have not had their teeth cleaned in some time. People who have a lot of plaque built up on their teeth are ideal candidates.

They have many clients which have been participating in their program for 20 to 30 years. It’s cost efficient, but there’s a catch, “the time factor.”

Because it is a learning process, participants need to allow ample time for their treatment. Appointment times vary from two to five hours and may require at least two or more visits, depending on their individual needs.

X-ray appointments are shorter, usually lasting from 30 minutes to 1 hours, depending on the type of x-ray taken. According to Susan Scott, who manages the clinic, the students do an excellent job and are very thorough and caring.

Anyone is interested in helping RWC students by participating in the program should call 745-5630. Leave your name, phone number, and times when you are available for an appointment.

Your information will be put on a list, and as students have availability they’ll give you a call.

The clinic is open Tuesdays and Thursdays 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and Wednesdays 1-6:30 p.m.

Dental cleanings, including deep scaling, cost just $2 for Senior Citizens and $10 for all other clients. Soft tissue cleaning costs just $1, as does denture cleaning.

Sealants cost $3 per tooth. X-rays cost $10 for a full mouth series, $7 for bitewings, and $10 for a panograph.

There is no charge for fluoride treatment or client education.

All services are by appointment only and are only offered from October through May of each school year. The clinic does not accept insurance.
