Generally the music review is written on an upcoming music event or group; however, in this edition of the Activist I would like to do a review on a variety show that I was able to attend. This variety show is called the Holy Trinity Variety Players Show. It is not only great music, but also dance and small skits as well. The Holy Trinity Variety group has been around for 36 years. The group is made up of roughly 40 people, ranging in age from 18 years to the oldest being a woman in her 80’s.
Many of the performers are generations of families. I was able to speak to one of the members, Julie Christen, who is a current RWC student and good friend of mine. She and her mother are both a part of this wonderful musical organization. The show that they performed this year was a collaboration of the best of the last 10 years. It was wonderful! There was tap dancing, singing, and some wonderful comical skits performed as well.
The Group is also extremely dedicated to this show. They begin practicing in January and continue every Sunday until the show is hosted in April with a new theme for each performance. They have shows two weekends in a row, on Friday and Saturday nights.
The show on Saturday nights includes a dinner, and then they have a Wednesday show for kids, which is wonderful. I took my three-year old daughter, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. They had music from several of the Disney movies and kept her attention the entire time. It made for a great night with my family.
There is a small charge for the show, but the group is a non-profit organization. The money they raise is given back to the church and school where they perform.
The Variety Show Group is always looking for new members. You must be 18 years of age and looking to have a good time. You don’t have to be a professional singer or dancer. Just have a love for seeing a smile on someone’s face.
If anyone is interested in participating in next year’s show, contact Trinity Variety Players President Joe Geers at 513-531-1666.
