Nhu-An Nguyen named 2005 RWC Student of the Year

Pre-Med student Nhu-An Nguyen was named the 2005 RWC Student of the Year at the annual student award ceremony Friday May 20. Nhu-An described herself as “shocked, surprised, proud, unbelieving, happy, and excited” when she learned of the award. She plans to enroll in UC’s McMicken College of Arts and Sciences next fall with the goal of finishing a BA in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Then she will apply to Medical School.

When she gets her medical degree, she hopes to go abroad to help Third World countries, including her home country of Vietnam.

She credits her family, who came to America from Vietnam, for much of her success. “My family is my greatest inspiration,” she said. “They are my number one supporter in everything I do.”

One thing they obviously did for her was to instill in her the value of hard work. Amazingly, Nhu-An has been working at three jobs to pay for college. She is a French tutor at RWC, works as a travel agent for Cruise Holidays of West Chester, and is also a host at Bravo’s Restaurant. In addition, she regularly volunteers at a nursing home and with youth groups.

She will leave RWC with many fond memories. “The best thing at RWC are the professors,” she said. “If any of [my RWC] professors taught any other classes at A&S, I would be more than excited to take their classes.”

Nhu-An cited professors Emenaker, Koehler, Roos, Cebula, and Wray as her favorites.
