My World: Why Close the Daycare Center?

As most of you are aware, there have been rumors that the RWC Daycare Center might be closing. How does this affect you?Well, honestly, if you’re not a parent, it probably doesn’t. You will get more classroom space, which is a plus, but that’s all. Why, then, are we talking about closing it? I understand that there is a financial burden placed upon the school for its upkeep, but, as a parent, I pay to send my daughter there. So why am I being punished?

The Daycare Center takes away the stress and anxiety of “being away” from your children because they are in such close proximity with you. It also cuts out extra time that you would have to give yourself to get to school if you had to drop your child off at an off-site daycare center.

Another benefit of the Center is the savings: you are already spending a fortune on your college education. Add that to being a single parent and you’re nearly bankrupt.

The Center, however, is extremely reasonable, and the staff work with you and your schedule. The Center charges $5/hour for under three hours a week, $4.50/hour for 3-5 hours a week, $4.25/hour for 6-9 hours a week and $4/hour for 10 or more hours: it benefits you more to go to school full time.

It also has a drop-in service: for all those odd times that the College stays open when every other school and daycare center is closed. You can just drop off your child (who may attend another center or school) so you can attend class.

The benefits of keeping the Center open are endless, yet I can only seem to find one legitimate reason for closing it. Who does this closure really benefit: the parents and the students who attend this college? Or just the College itself?
