Smarthinking rep to demonstrate UC’s online tutoring service

Danny Clark, a representative from Smarthinking, UC’s online tutoring service will be on the RWC campus on Feb. 14 to give two presentations to students, faculty, and staff on how the Smarthinking system works.

The Smarthinking service has been available to all UC students since the beginning of Fall Quarter. Students must first create an account by filling out a form at the RWC Writing Center in Muntz 112I. Eventually, UC intends for students to be able to register through their Blackboard accounts. Writing Center staff will fax the form to Clifton Campus, where students will be given a username and password to use for logging into the Smarthinking website www.smarthinking.com.
Once students have logged on, they are taken directly to the Smarthinking home page, where they can begin to get the assistance they need.
From September to May, help is available on Smarthinking in the following subjects:

Math (Basic Skills-Calculus): 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Intro Human A&P, Biology, Organic Chemistry, and Introductory Finance: Sunday-Thursday: 9 p.m.-1 a.m. EST.

Spanish: Available via “Submit Your Question” and the “Spanish Essay Center.”

Accounting, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Mathematics with Spanish-speaking tutors, Statistics, and Writing: Sunday-Thursday: 3 p.m.-1 a.m. EST; Friday & Saturday: 12 p.m.-6 p.m. EST.

“Submit Your Questions,” “Submit Your Writing,” and “Academic Resources and Archives” are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

These same services will also be available in the summer, with some variances in the hours.
Mr. Clark’s presentations are scheduled for 10:30 a.m.-noon and 1-2:30 p.m., both in Room 112B Muntz. He will cover all aspects of the service, which is funded by the University and provided free to all UC students.

Following the presentations, faculty and staff will have the opportunity for a hands-on demo of the service.

The presentation is free and no reservation is necessary, but attendance will be first come-first served, as space permits in the room.
