Where to vacation?

Where do you plan on going this summer? I know a lot of students and families are going to take their vacation elsewhere, anywhere but here in Cincinnati. They’re doing the smart thing, because Cincinnati has lost its edge as far as attracting tourists. Really the only thing to do here is to go to Kings Island, which has added the Nickelodeon Central and the 7th Portal 3D action ride. Other than this, there really is nothing to do in Cincinnati.

Recently we’ve had storm after storm that has spoiled many outdoor events. If you drive around the city, you often see a lot of scenic viewpoints, but those only go so far. Once upon a time you could enjoy the sports events that we have, like the Bengals and the Reds games, but nowadays they are not worth going to, for obvious reasons.

Also they keep closing down mall after mall after mall. Swifton Commons used to be a very popular hangout spot for the youth, but now there are only three stores in there worth going to. Many kids like me used to be in love with Forest Fair Mall, but since they got rid of laser tag, the arcades, miniature golf, and the games, it’s losing its touch.

Now the only places worth going are on the outskirts of Cincinnati, places like Jillian’s, Dave and Busters, and everything in the Florence Mall area. If their aim is to get us to leave Cincinnati to do something else, they’re succeeding.

I’m not saying that Cincinnati doesn’t have anything to offer; I’m saying that compared to other cities, Cincinnati doesn’t have anything to offer. I love this city and everything about it. But if I’m going to take a vacation Cincinnati won’t be on the top of my list. (It may very well be on the bottom!)

Florida is extremely beautiful this time of year. You can go down to the beaches, check out the scenery, catch some rays, meet the wonderful people, go surfing; you name it! I’m in the process of making plans to go down to Walt Disney World with my friends, and I can’t wait until this quarter is over so I can go. Or you could go to New Orleans and try some spicy Cajun food. Maybe you prefer skiing and would like to hit the slopes up north in Alaska.
