Current RWC eMedia student Elizabeth Klein received an Emmy Award on August 8 from the National Academy of Television Arts and Science. The award was presented at the 44th annual Ohio Valley Regional Emmy Awards at the Westin Hotel in Cincinnati. Elizabeth is in her second year here at Raymond Walters and is majoring in the Applied Science degree of Electronic Media as well as working toward Animation and Broadcast Media certificates.
This award was presented to Elizabeth for her short animated story called “Green to Blue,” a stop motion animation describing the possible environmental impact of global warming. The project was for a final in the Fundamentals of Animation course taught by Professor David Hartz.
Elizabeth describes herself as a very visual person who likes to create vivid and colorful animations. “It’s a way to express myself,” she says.
Elizabeth described her project as being aimed towards kids so they can get a better understanding of what global warming is and what happens during it. When she learned of the award, Elizabeth was shocked and described the experience as one of the best things that she’s ever had happen to her and it makes her want to work even harder.
She says she was even more shocked because this was a very tough competition, and this was her first ever stop motion assignment.
The experience itself isn’t like Hollywood, she says. The process was very competitive, but worth the time. She had a lot of fun with it and was able to meet many people along the way.
The entire project took two months for Elizabeth to complete, and the entire set she used was handmade. Actually shooting her piece only took about two or three days.
