How many of us have seen the office across from the Bookstore, but never knew what went on inside? If you’ve been wondering, that’s the RWC Career Services Office, which has many upcoming events that students should look out for. If you’re undecided about your career path, stop by or make an appointment with Carly Dennis, a career services counselor. The aim of the Career Services Office is to help students with choosing a career that suits them and in deciding on or changing majors. The Office can also help students to embark on a career path that fits their personality, interests, and skills.
November 17-21 is National Career Development week. Poets or artist looking to display their talents can participate in the National Poetry and Poster Contest. This year’s theme is “Inspire Your Career, Develop Your Dreams.”
Entry forms can be picked up in Muntz Hall in Room 125. All entries are to be turned into Career Services by November 10.
Career Services will also be holding free workshops this fall, helping students to map their careers. These workshops will be held on the following dates:
Monday: October 20, 1 p.m.
Tuesday: October 21, 1 p.m.
Wednesday: November 5, 12 p.m.
Thursday: November 6, 12 p.m.
At 2 p.m. on Monday November 17, and at 1 p.m. on Tuesday November 20, there will be a workshop on how to organize and manage a job search. Career services will help students learn how to conduct a job search, including initial employers, contacts, follow-ups and salary negotiations. Register with Career Services.
The Office also provides a career search website, where students can post resumes and connect with employers. The website is located at www.collegecentral.com/ucrwc”.
