The RWC Winter 2007 Enrollment numbers have been announced recently by Dean Dolores Straker, and a small decrease is shown across the board. According to the Dean, enrollment and consequently income from tuition are both down compared to last year’s numbers.Enrollment is down 1.3 percent, which, in turn, affects the amount of credit hours taken, which are down 1.2 percent. Tuition for the quarter is down $73,000 and tuition for the year is projected to be down $300,000.
The Dean also discussed the proposal for UC to switch from quarters to semesters. Only four schools in Ohio are currently on quarters (UC, Ohio State, Wright State, and Ohio U.), so it would be convenient for students from schools other than those to transfer to the four.
Ohio State is leading the way and could possibly convert by 2011. There is no word on whether UC is expected to or when it will convert. Most likely though, since UC loves to piggy-back on OSU, it will eventually switch over to semesters.
As to the question of what the switch would cost, there aren’t any figures yet, but UC will have to change its curriculum extensively. Will one-quarter classes get extended to one semester? Half a semester? Dropped entirely? What will happen to those teachers?
These are just some of the questions that will have to be answered in the future if UC is to switch.
