The way I decide on what CD to review is by a group’s first single from the album. When I heard Alien Ant Farm’s version of “Smooth Criminal,” I immediately thought that I should give this band a try. Any band that can remake a Michael Jackson song and make it sound good deserves some kind of credit.Alien Ant Farm is a young band from Southern California. They are the first band signed to Papa Roach’s label New Noize. The name of their album is ANThology. The members of the band consist of Dryden Mitchell as vocals, Terry Corso as guitarist, Tye Zamora as bassist, and Mike Cosgroves as drummer.
Their style reminds me of Papa Roach and Linkin Park. They have a pop-metal sound with lyrics that are raw emotion. If you’ve ever been really angry with a relationship, you can definitely relate to the music. Just listen to their song “Movies.” “Courage” is another one of their songs that caught my attention. It contains emotion, melody, and awesome guitar rifts. The different variations in their songs show Alien Ant Farm’s abilities to be creative and talented.
Overall, Alien Ant Farm is worth listening to. ANThology makes me anticipate AAF’s future. Their debut album shows a lot of potential with Mitchell’s vocals that go beyond and with the distinctiveness in their melodies, the two go hand in hand. For a grade I will give AAF a B for audacity and originality.
