Chris Potter brings talented jazz quartet to RWC

Chris Potter is at the top of his game. Rated No. 1 in the Rising Star of Tenor Saxophone category for three consecutive years by “Downbeat” jazz magazine’s Critics Poll, he is recognized internationally as the new generation of jazz greats. He will bring a collection of other respected artists, including Adam Rogers (guitar), Craig Taborn (Fender Rhodes), and Nate Smith (drums) to play at RWC in Muntz auditorium on Saturday, February 24 at 8 p.m. for the Rhythm ‘N Blue Ash performance series.

“I want people to dance if they can, to feel the music and not think of it as something complicated and forbidding,” Potter says. “I want to be communicating something. You can do that and not sacrifice anthing artistically.”

An unabashedly rhythmic player, Chris’s most recent CD, “Underground,” is a groove-oriented recording that makes no sacrifices or compromises in the quest for musical integrity and communication with his audience.

Chris recorded and toured with music industry giants Steely Dan and has recorded with jazz legends like Marion McPartland and James Moody. Another interesting fact about the quartet is that they do not feature a bass player, but the keyboard player fills in the bass line with his left hand.
