John Kraimer is Director of RWC Disabilities Services. Before coming here, he worked for the Disability Rights Organization. He says the experience helped make him more aware of disability issues. He has been with RWC for three and a half years, working to provide accommodation for students with disabilities. He says the majority of students he works with have hidden disabilities, such as ADD, learning disabilities and psychological problems. Some students also have visual, hearing, or physical disabilities.
Disabilities Services offers a variety of services to students, including notetakers, tutors, interpreters, extended testing time, scribes, readers, tape recordings, communications aids, and help with class scheduling.
Kraimer says these services are intended to “level the playing field, not give advantages.”
To receive help, students must provide documentation of disability. Then Kraimer and his staff will assess what services are needed.
The Disability Services Office, located in Muntz Room 112E, behind the Computer Concourse, is also a resource for anyone with disability issues. Kraimer says he and his staff will try to help with any disability issue, not just school related.
