Every day brings change in this presidental election

The closer we get to the November 4th presidential election, the more eager we are becoming. This year it seems more important than ever to pay attention to the election because the candidates are doing things that are always changing. This is what you could call “critical alignment,” having to pay attention! Demographics are a good example of critical alignment. Voters today include the young, the old, and baby boomers. Boomers are getting ready to retire, have 401k plans, and will possibly vote absentee.

Did you know that 30 percent of today’s population who are old enough to vote and are registered to vote will vote absentee? In all, 36 out of 50 states have made it easier for everyone to vote absentee, which will probably make the voting turnout higher.

Today the culture is also a big thing in the election. More African-Americans are likely to vote in this election because we have an African-American running for the president. In past years, fewer African Americans voted.

Having Sarah Palin as a candidate for vice president has encouraged some women to vote Republican. More than half the voters are women.

The Internet is another big factor these days in advertising the candidates. This is a newer way of campaigning and asking for donations. There are ads online to learn more about the candidate, and if you get on their e-mail list, they e-mail you with reasons why you should vote for their party.

With all of these new changes, communication, and new ways of campaigning, the election will be big this year and have a greater turnout than past years because of everything going on. Your vote does count!
