A new Education program to educate and train paraprofessional aids will begin on all UC campuses in the fall of 2003. According to Dr. Diane Feibel, RWC Professor of Behavioral Sciences, this will prepare students “to meet the criteria for the new licensing requirements of the state of Ohio.” This AA degree program will be concentrated in Clermont College, but courses will also be offered at RWC.
Students who take this program will be able to articulate into a degree to complete their Bachelors of Science, because the first two years of the AA program are the same as the first two years of the new degree program, Special Education, which is being offered at UC’s Clifton campus.
RWC already has three other education programs, all of which can be transferred to UC’s Clifton Campus. The three programs are Early Childhood Education (K-3), Middle Childhood Education (4-8), and Secondary Education (9-12). Through these programs students can complete basic course work for their requirements such as English, Math and Science, History, and others here at RWC. There are many electives that can also be taken here to fill those requirements and then transferred to Clifton.
However, RWC only offers the first two years of the different education programs, so students who opt for these programs will have to transfer in order to get their BA and be licensed to teach. UC’s Clifton Campus is the most common choice, but there are other options. Some of these other options include Xavier, Wilmington College, Northern Kentucky University, St. Thomas More, Ohio State University, and Wright State, among others. In order to get more information of these different programs from other colleges you should contact the individual college.
