If you’re a fan of Twitter, you might be interested in reading an article by RWC Assistant Professor of History, Krista Sigler titled “Teaching with Twitter.” The article has been recently published in “Perspectives on History,” a magazine all about history in all forms-including media, archives, and even museum exhibitions, among other things.
In the article, Professor Sigler talks about how Twitter not only can be a fun site to use to check up on your friends, but also an important source of information on things going on around the world.
She discusses how the website can be useful for educators in history, as well. For instance, we can track major current events by using tools like the hash tag (though, we must remember, she says, to make sure we analyze the information we are receiving, considering it is often very skewed or untrue).
She says that we can use tools like Twitter to help students hone their analyzing skills and to encourage them to learn as much as they can about the present, as well as the past.
