Disabilities Services: People Who Care

Mary Lou Ellison has served as the Learning Disabilities Coordinator in the RWC Disabilities Office for 15 years. The Disabilities Office opened in the 1990s as a center to help students with different disabilities. Ellison says that her role in the office is to help students succeed in college. The Office provides note takers for every subject, in every class, and also provides accommodations for students who need a quiet invironment for testing.

Ellison is now temporarily directing the operations of the Disabilities Office in the absence of John Kraimer, who, in November, had to take a leave of absence for major lumbar surgery. Ellison said Kraimer will return this summer.

Currently Ellison has three student assistants in the Office, but she says there is room for more assistants who would like to work there. The hours of the Disabilities Office are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The Office is closed on weekends.
