Between the Buried and Me (BTBAM) receives constant praise and criticism in the progressive metal scene. Implementing elements of jazz, progressive rock, punk, folk music, and at times, even country, BTBAM, it would seem, have no musical boundaries. They’ve always been quite an unpredictable band, as you never know what they’re going to do next.
“The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues” is the band’s first release with Metal Blade Records after leaving Victory in 2010. This album is a great comeback after their previous album, “The Great Misdirect,” which was good, but lacked the complexity that was expected. This album shows that the group is back and the best they’ve been musically.
This album provides a unique and challenging listen. You need to hear it more than once to fully grasp the details of the music.
