Robby Malof, a freshman at RWC, is good company to keep. Why? Because he's a trained Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter. That means he could take down a man twice his size just through simple joint manipulation. When Robby first started boxing, he quickly found success. Within two years, he became an undefeated amateur boxer. This soon led him into Jiu-Jitsu, a Brazilian fighting technique.

Robby laughs about his sports past, joking that he was never very good at them. "I wasn't very coordinated," he says. "I tried everything; basketball, baseball, football, soccer. I wasn't good at any of it. I never enjoyed a sport until I found MMA."

Whatever Robby has tried in the past, MMA fighting has turned out to be a good fit. Robby spends at least five days a week at the gym preparing for his upcoming fights. He currently stands undefeated, and, on top of this tough workout regimen, he also teaches boxing classes and attends school full time.

With so much on his plate, Robby still tries to live his life like any normal 19 year old. "I can't talk about it all the time," he insists. "I won't let my fighting consume my life. When I leave the gym, I leave everything there."

Robby admits that this all might just be a phase, but he is enjoying his accomplishments one day at a time. "I don't really like to look into the future," he says. "I have long term goals, and short term goals, but ultimately I try to live day by day."

Down the road, Robby would like to turn pro by the end of this year, become a world champion, and open up his own gym. Although these dreams sound big, Robby's passion and hard work make them very attainable.

Robby is a friendly student and very down to earth. However, he isn't the guy you want to mess with because he could take you down in a matter of seconds.

If you get the chance to meet Robby, you will be inspired. His two favorite quotes are "If you ever take life too seriously, you'll never get out alive" and "Never be less than your dreams."

So, Raymond Walters students, take Robby's words to heart and dream big.
