Outdoor Enjoyment: Exploring Miami Whitewater Forest
On a cool summer night, a three-year-old girl and her dad hop in a 1978 Porsche 911. The dad buckles his daughter in and starts the car. They’ve had an amazing day at the park. They spent a lot of time on the huge swing set in front of the lake. They broke the rules and fed the friendly ducks that swim around the lake, and when the sun came out they ran through the water park to cool off. As they pull out of the park, the car turns off. The little girl gives her dad a confused look and asks what happened. He tells her the car ran out of gas. He pushes the car across the street, unbuckles his daughter, and they lay in the soft grass, and look at the millions of stars that can be seen.
It is a beautiful warm sunny day. You and your loved one or children are thinking about having a picnic. Are you having trouble deciding where to go? Miami Whitewater Forest is the answer. There is no need to worry; the chances of you running out of gas in your car are unlikely, as long as you check how much gas you have first. The drive to the park is just as beautiful as the park itself. For those who aren’t from the west side it’s a bit of a drive, but completely worth it. It is just outside of Miamitown with multiple ways to get there. I prefer to take Hamilton Cleves Rd to Mt Hope Rd. As you pull in there is always someone to welcome you with a smile, probably because they are going to ask for $3 for parking, but the memories that will be made there will be priceless.
This park has it all, from the wonderful golf course to the bike trails, and to the water park for the kids. There is also a pond for fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking and much more.
In the boathouse you have many options of things you can rent for a few hours, like bikes to ride along one of the trails. If you don’t feel like riding the trails, you can always walk along them. Along the more popular shorter trail, there are small challenges/stretches, which anybody can do. This makes a one and a half mile walk more fun. That same trail even takes you down towards the river.
The golf course mentioned earlier is a brilliant 18-hole course along with a driving range. The golf course is good for people of all ages and experience levels. They offer full instruction, and club fitting along with a practice range and putting green. During the summer there are camps for kids to learn the sport and get pointers on how to better their game.
Miami Whitewater Forest is worth visiting during the day, but is especially worth sticking around for the beautiful view of the stars, just as the little girl and her dad saw that night after their long eventful day.
