Blast from the Past
The Activist Celebrates Back to the Future Day
Back To The Future is a 1980s sci-fi trilogy about Marty McFly who travels through time in a modified DeLorean car in order to keep his timeline intact.
And in Back To The Future II, Marty has to take a trip to the future, October 21, 2015, in order to save his kids. It’s pretty groovy that the date in the movie is a time period that many who watched the movie could actually live to see. So, it makes sense that it has made an impact on several generations, like other memorable movies such as Star Wars and Jaws. October 21, 2015 was basically the perfect day to celebrate McFly and his adventures and naturally brings on the reflection of how 2015 looked in the movie. Did the filmmakers in the 1980s accurately predict what 2015 would really have? Will we have things depicted in the movie soon enough? What’s up with those self-lace Nike shoes? Are they really going to be released?
It’s obvious we’re still missing the hoverboard (although the self-riding skateboard is pretty close) and if Nike would stop teasing us, I’m sure we’ll have self-lace shoes next year. Either way Back To The Future, if my calculations are correct, is a timeless classic. October 21, 2015 was the day Marty McFly traveled to in the future. In this issue, Activist staff writers celebrate the momentous day.
