New ASRT President Elected

Professor Julie Gill, Head of the Allied Health Department, was recently elected president of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), a national organization. Dr. Gill will serve one term as president-elect, one term as president, and one term as chairman of the board. Professor Gill is currently serving as the organization's vice-president.

The ASRT is the largest and oldest allied health organization in the country. There are over 145,000 members. Some of the ASRT's core values include commitment, leadership, integrity, creativity, and accountability. The organization was founded in 1920. Its offices are located in New Mexico.

The president of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists is elected through a rigorous process. There is a committee who chooses the potential candidates from all the members of the ASRT. Once a slate of candidates has been put together, the members from around the country vote electronically for the next president.

The president of the ASRT will serve for a three-year term. Professor Gill will be the president-elect for one year, 2012-2013. During this time she will prepare for the presidency. She will have to perform any of the duties that the current president cannot complete.

Next, Professor Gill will serve one year as the president of the ASRT. Finally, she will spend the last year of her term as the chairman of the board.

It is exceptional that Professor Gill has been elected to this position. Professor Gill ran against another strong candidate, but was fortunate to be elected to this position.

Professor Gill has been a member of the ASRT since 1987. "It's really exciting to know that I'll be serving the ASRT members for three more years" Dr. Gill stated.

Dr. Gill's role in this national organization brings even more prestige to an already well-respected UCBA program.
