British Study Abroad: An Awesome Journey

By Karly Mason

During the month of June, thanks to RWC (as it was known then), I had the opportunity of a lifetime to travel abroad as a part of the group who went to Great Britain, and boy did we have fun!

There was never a dull moment. We were always going somewhere or doing something. There were a few days I wanted to stay in and just relax and catch my breath, but then I remembered I'm in the freakin' UK, so I should go out, experience it, and live it!

I took advantage of every single moment I could. I made some wonderful friends (we were the night owls), and we took advantage of our free weekends going to Edinburgh, Scotland, and Dublin, Ireland.

I have to say I think Liverpool was my favorite part. Some of my friends got on stage at the Cavern Club (Beatles fans, you know how awesome that is!), and we sang "Hey Jude," making friends with a singer/guitarist at the Cavern. I was also one of the select few who got to tour John Lennon's and Paul McCartney's childhood homes. It was beyond amazing and was definitely an experience and a feeling I will remember for the rest of my life.

Harlaxton Manor was our home away from home. I wish it were my real home! Any description I was to give you about Harlaxton would not do it justice; driving up the long driveway and seeing it for the first time was breathtaking. The place is absolutely beautiful.

My roommate and I made friends with the security guard there, and one day at sunset he took us up the clock tower to see the view. It was definitely the best view from the Manor. It was hard to say good bye to Harlaxton and its beauty, but I was excited to spend our last four days in London.

There was not a lot of sleep going on, and most of the time I was running on adrenaline, which was totally fine because it worked.

We were going nonstop for three and a half weeks going from place to place, so needless to say when we finally got back home to Cincinnati I slept for about a week straight.

I could go on and on, but here's my advice to you: if you are thinking about studying abroad, even if it's the slightest thought in the back of your mind, do it! You won't regret it, and if you're thinking about it now and don't do it, you might regret not doing it later. It's a great opportunity, and it's so much fun.

I want to give a special thanks to Professor Roos and Professor Otten for making the experience all the more fun. You guys are awesome!
