This summer, RWC is going to welcome nine visiting students from Technische Universitaet, in Ilmenau, Germany, who will get the opportunity to experience the way Americans live. Last year, a group of RWC students went overseas to visit Ilmenau, and now it’s our turn to show them a warm welcome. The students will be here starting August 17. Their stay will extend until September 4. Sidall Hall on Main Campus will provide them with housing during their stay.
While the students are here, they will be participating in an Intense American Culture and Language course, directed by Professor Debbie Page of the RWC Foreign Language Department. This includes class every morning for three hours Monday through Friday. But not all of it is class. They will get to have fun as well.
Students will be attending business lectures and visiting local businesses during the day. On weekends, they will be going on a few different excursions. These summer excursions are not quite finalized yet but in the past students have been taken to the Ohio State Fair, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Serpent Mound, and have gone canoeing, which seemed to be the favorite, according to Professor Page.
At night, the students get to enjoy some free time off. During their stay, they will be given a break in order to travel home with RWC faculty or staff members and see how they spend their day.
But these students will still need some interaction from peers their age. If anyone is interested, the Foreign Language Department is in need of a few students to help out. You will be assigned to take one of the exchange students out and show them some popular places where you and your friends go. This is especially a good opportunity if you are in need of a Service Learning Course.
