The Infamous Ending of the Seahawks-Packers Game

By James Crawford

The Seattle Seahawks are one of the rising teams in the National Football League. But the Green Bay Packers left their mark on the NFL by winning the Lombardi trophy two seasons ago.
The Monday night football game that brought these teams together on September 24 was a classic, because there were so many big plays that happened at the end of the game.
Most of the plays helped the Seahawks get the win. For instance, on the Seahawks' last drive, they got a pass interference call that put them in Packer territory. That call really helped them out by getting them closer to the end zone so that they could try the Hail Mary to win the game.
Then, as time started to expire on the last play of the game, Russell Wilson just threw a desperation pass, and it was caught by Seahawks receiver Golden Tate to win the game.
The touchdown play was reviewed, but the call on the field by the replacement referees was upheld. From my stand point, I believe that the referee made the right call on the field, but if those were real officials out there, I believe that the calls in that particular game wouldn't have been as big as they were.
The referee came out from under the reviewing booth and said that there was simultaneous possession by both teams. But the Packers' defensive back had more control of the ball than the Seahawks players, because the receiver only had one hand on the ball when he went up for it and as they both were falling to the ground, the Seahawks receiver stuck his other hand in so that it would seem that they were just wrestling for the ball.
When that happens, when it is determined that there is simultaneous possession of the ball, officials are supposed to give the offensive player the catch. So the Seahawks got the touchdown to win the game.
The Seahawks stadium went wild when fans heard the call. Packer fans, players, and coaches, however, were all in shock from how one game can kind of decide your season.
For a whole week, this game was talked about all over sports channels worldwide. This win was probably one the most memorable of them all just because of the circumstances at the end of the game and the controversy of the call.
The final score was Seahawks 14 to the Packers 12. If I was in the Packers' predicament, I would be hurt by this loss. This was one of the weirdest games to watch and critique because of how fast the game's outcome became worldwide.
